Prevention of Sexual Abuse in German Schools

Organization: DREIST e.V.dreist
Project: Prevention of Sexual Abuse in German Schools
Location: Eberswalde, Germany
Target group: Children who are victims of abuse and exploitation

A recent study shows that as much as every second German school has been concerned with suspected cases of child abuse - this asks for effective preventive measures. The project develops, establishes and implements a program of primary prevention against sexual abuse in primary schools, secondary schools, day care centers and youth welfare institutions. Its strength is the intensive and long-term work with teachers, parents, other caretakers and the children themselves as well as the combination of prevention messages with an age appropriate sex education.

PRO-JU-SAVE

Organization: Projekt PETRA, IG Frauen und Familie Prenzlau e.V.petra
Project: PRO-JU-SAVE
Location: Darmstadt and Prenzlau, Germany
Target group: Children in alternative care

Studies indicate a high percentage of suicidal as well as self-harming behavior patterns of adolescents taken into alternative care. Still, regular screenings and risk assessments are not undertaken. As a consequence, the children do not have a chance for adequate care and the co-living children as well as the professionals find themselves in potentially endangering circumstances. PRO-JU-SAVE develops a practical tool (Motivational Interview) for the intensive participation of adolescents. Additionally, professionals are trained for applying the interview and screening techniques (MAISY-2, CTQ), in order to detect significant and acute stresses of adolescents and to initiate appropriate further services

In order to help traumatized child refugees in dealing with their past, it is vital to offer a culturally sensitive, mother-tongue therapy which is not broadly available to all minor refugees due to a lack of funding. Organization: Evangelisches Jugend- und Fürsorgewerk (EJF gAG)kindimzentrum
Project: Kind im Zentrum
Location: Wittenberg, Germany
Target group: Children who are victims of abuse and exploitation

Unlike big cities small towns and villages rarely offer specialized consulting and therapy for sexually abused children and their families. In 2012 EJF established a consulting center in the small town Wittenberg that offers therapeutic and preventative measures as well as networking capacities to those children. The project aims at helping children in need, protecting them from future abuse and supporting them in their individual development.
