Child Representation & Participation

Organization: Nobody’s Children Foundation
Project: Child Representation & Participation
Location: Warsaw, Poland
Target group: Children who are victims of abuse

Currently in Poland, children who are victims of abuse are often represented by a non-offending parent who does not have legal knowledge and – when the accused is the other parent – has a conflict of interest. Nobody’s Children Foundation is developing a model where children who are victims of abuse are represented by specially trained lawyers as their court-appointed guardians (so called Guardian Ad Litem) and also supported by law students who are trained as Child Victim Advocates. The project goal is that the best interests of the child are represented during court proceedings by ensuring that they are represented by knowledgeable, child-friendly lawyers.
