All projects supported by World Childhood Foundation are reaching out to the most vulnerable of children; those mostly ignored and forgotten. One of Childhood’s goals is to raise awareness of problematic issues facing children that otherwise stay unnoticed and overlooked.
Childhood wants to protect children from abuse by working preventively. We want to be instrumental in creating safe and healthy living conditions for children making sure they are well cared for. We support children by giving them a chance to develop skills, knowledge and self-esteem – all important components in order to grow up to happy and productive adults.
What does Childhood do for children at risk?
We want to prevent children from being victims of abuse or ending up in the streets. In order to achieve that goal we support young mothers so that they do not leave their children in the care of institutions. We educate girls about the risks of trafficking and offer social and psychological support to children at risk of being abused. Childhood has specifically targeted marginalized children, also called social orphans, in that they are often abandoned and not orphaned in the traditional sense; their parents often leave them in order to find employment away from their home communities and leave the children behind. And, many children stil become abandoned because of illness or poverty.
In Thailand, Childhood supports the Kids Ark Foundation and their work with HIV positive children and children at risk of sexual abuse. Kids
USA
In the US, Childhood was able to identify support for a group of marginalized children who are in custody of the US government, and requiring special services and support. Some of the children in the Detained Immigrant Children's project are part of the more than 8,000 children on any given day that are held in detention centers around the US, attained by the authorities on grounds of being undocumented. These children are alone, have been either sent here on their own, or turn up as trafficking victims; 99% of them are likely victims of abuse and most do not speak English. Childhood helps Legasl Services for Children in their efforts to help these children be reunified with the families, or finding a safe living environment.
